After nearly two decades of United Nations discussions, the High Seas Treaty was adopted in June 2023, focused on conserving marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. At a critical juncture, this workshop set the stage for meaningful discourse outside formal negotiations.
Organised in collaboration with Oceano Azul Foundation and United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of The Sea (UNDOALOS), the workshops bring together national and international government representatives, scholars, and policy experts.
Cooperation is key to achieving the 60 ratifications required by 2025, particularly by fostering partnerships and sharing resources between states, ensuring the support needed to ratify the treaty.
